Dear miss Shaw,
ReplyDeleteHere are the things me and my dad thought were the most important.1) We thought that when the Europeans tried to talk the Native Americans to convert to Christianity. and if they didn't agree the Europeans would send them away to praying towns.me and my dad thought that was unfair you should have freedom of religion.and that leads me on to my next one, 2) We thought religious freedom was the second most important because you should be able to believe any thing YOU like weather its Jewish or Christianity. 3)we thought the native Americans were treated really unfairly but what they didn't see was that the Europeans brought over diseases that killed half of the Native Americans. 4) Also they named a collage after Harvard it is now called Harvard collage.5) what we thought was really salad was when the Europeans and the Native Americans fought with out stop and here's the sad part over 3/4 of the Native Americans were killed. that was unfair to the Native Americans and i can't relive that its still happening with "colored people" and "white people".

Dear Miss Shaw,
ReplyDeleteThis video was very interesting. Here are the most important facts I learned from this video: 1)The Puritans believed religion and law were the same thing, 2)Anne Hutchinson was killed for believing in religious freedom, 3)The English treated the Native Americans unfairly by trying to force them to change religions and live how they wanted them to live, 4)Harvard University was named after John Harvard and he left 400 books and half of his fortune to the University, and 5)The Native Americans fought a war against the English and "burned down" every building they saw.
Three questions:
1)Why did the English hate other religions?
2)Why did they hurt the people so brutally for wanting religious freedom?
3)Why did the English feel they could just take the land away from the Native Americans?

Dear Miss Shaw and Class,
ReplyDeleteI worked with my Mom on this assignment. The first 5 most important things about the Puritans I came up with are, 1. The Puritans came for religious freedom 2. They believe church and law are together 3. They are intolerant of people who don't believe in there religion 4. Rodger Williams founded Rhode Island, and believed everyone had the right to religious freedom 5. The Native Americans believe sacred land cannot be owned, but the English thought other and fought them for the sacred land. Here are my 3 questions I came up with. Did the quakers move out of Massachusetts because of religious freedom? When did Massachusetts adopt the separation between church and state? Were people who believed in different religions admitted to Havored?
Sincerely,
Percy
Dear Miss Shaw & Class,
ReplyDeleteHere are some of the important things I learned about the Puritans.
1) The Puritans Wanted to covert the Wampanoag and the other tribes in their area.
2) The English would Hang people if they were not of the main religion.
3) Metacomet, also known derogatorily by the English as "king Philip" Staged a war Known as king Philip's War, and Destroyed and killed many Colonies and Colonists.
4)That Roger Williams Dissented from Boston to start his own colony, Rhode Island, where he welcomed everyone who was not Puritan.
5) In Puritan Society, Region & law were the same thing.
A few Questions,
1) Why were the Native Americans Sold as slaves?
2) Why did the Puritans Want Williams dead for attempting Equality towards the Native Americans?
3)Why did the Puritans Try to convert the Native Americans, if they already had enough Puritans for a successful colony?
Sincerely,
Brendan
Dear Miss Shaw and class,
ReplyDeleteHere are five important facts about the Puritans.
1. The Puritans didn't like being told what their religious beliefs should be.
2. They soon found life unbearable and traveled from England to New England.
3. The Puritans started out as farmers but soon began trading goods with the West Indies.
4. The Puritans tried to convert the Native Americans to believe in their religion.
5. Roger Williams stuck up for the Indians. He believed in religious freedom and moved to Rhode Island in hopes for a better life.
Here are my questions about the Puritans.
1. When the Puritans left England they were frustrated with religious pressure. Why did they feel they needed to do the same thing to the Native Americans?
2. Did Roger Williams and Ann Hutchinson know each other and work together in Rhode Island?
3. Why did the Puritans just take the land from the Native Americans who were there first?
sincerely,
Aaron and Mom
Dear class,
ReplyDeleteHere are the most important things
1)The Puritans wanted to convert other tribes in there area.
2)The Africans arrived in 1619 in small numbers
3)A small number of black people became rich
4)Slavery started in the 1600's
5)The people in England would kill the people that would not follow the religion.
My questions
Where there more African slaves then white slaves?
Why was the slavery percent in New York so high?
When did the Dutch come in the story?
Andrew and my Dad
Dear Class,
ReplyDeleteThese are my 5 facts and 3 questions!
1.The Puritans wanted to have more religious freedom because England only had the church of Englet.
2.They traded with the West Indies for food clothing and expensive jewelry.
3.Every man who wanted to participate in elections had to be part of the church.
4.Many Puritan leaders were well educated in Europe's leading Universities.
5.Puritans paid countless money for education.
One Question that took my mind off was Why they treated African Americans so badly when they treat Whites like a their best friend? I thought well African Americans are people they aren't animals. So when I said earlier that Puritans are well educated and I take that back. If Puritans can't tell the difference between animals or humans they shouldn't be going to a university. My little 5 year old sister can tell the difference of those two!
Did Puritans own any animals?
If they did what animals would they find or get?
Those were my facts and Questions of the Puritans!
Regards,
Raghava!

DeleteDear Class,
ReplyDeleteHere is what I learned about the Puritans.
1. The Puritans left England because they weren't allowed to practice their religious beliefs.
2. They believed in the importance of higher education and many of the Puritan leaders were educated in top European universities.
3.They were the first to trade with colonies in the West Indies.
4. They tried to convert the Native Americans to Christianity. Even though some Native Americans eventually converted to Christianity, they still were not accepted in Puritan towns.
5. Not all Puritans were narrow minded. A good example of this is Roger Williams. He believed all should have freedom to practice their own religious beliefs.
One thing that I was wondering about was if the Puritans were trying to escape religious persecution, why did they persecute those who didn't share their beliefs? Did the Puritans interact and socialize with the Pilgrims? Who was allowed to go to the colleges that the Puritans founded (like Harvard)?
From,
Lindsey and my mom
Dear Class,
ReplyDeleteThese are my five facts and three questions that I thought of about the video:
1) Plymouth was founded in 1620
2) Each year the pilgrims sent a shipment of furs and lumber back to England for things they needed.
3) They left England because they disagreed with the religious beliefs of the King and Church.
4) By 1643, 20,000 colonists came to America
5) The colonists made towns called Salem, Concord and Boston.
Three questions that I have are:
1) Why weren't women mentioned in the politics and education?
2) Why did English only want people to have the same religious beliefs?
3) Why did the Puritans treat the Native Americans poorly?

From Shrubs and dad
The Puritans were disagreed about religion in England and decided to move to America. To get supplies to live the Puritans sent wood and other precious materials back to England. A man broke away with some followers to create his own colony because of a disagreement between the Puritans. The man accepted always religious beliefs even people who do not have religious beliefs. The Colony flourished with a well trade with the Native Americans.
ReplyDeleteA couple of questions that I have about the Puritans are why they did not just make peace with the Native Americans to not lose lives? They would also been able to get extra supplies from them! Also why would they hang someone just for having different religious beliefs? Also If you were to break away from the colony wouldn't you lose all your supplies?
