This week we will brainstorm all the different topics we learned about at Camp St. Croix pertaining to the subject of science, and on Monday, we will work on writing our first drafts of our paragraphs. When you are done revising your paragraphs, you can visit this page and write your paragraph in the Comments/Posts section. Just remember to write who is writing the post at the beginning (for example, Miss Shaw said...) Not only did I have fun, but I also learned a lot. I can't wait to read about all the wonderful facts you learned about at camp so here's your chance to share.

ReplyDeleteThis is what I learned about: nocturnal animals. Nocturnal animals sleep during the day and find food at night. Bats use echo-location. Eco-location is a sound a bat uses to find food. They make a sound that bounces of its prey, so the bat knows where it is. Other nocturnal animals are owls, raccoons, skunks and mice. I hope you like nocturnal animals.
If you are ever in a survival situation you need the rule of 3 to survive. They are 3seconds without PMA, 3 minutes without oxygen, 3 hours without shelter, 3 days without water finally 3 weeks without food.On average you cant survive without the rule of 3. You cant survive without these because your body needs them to process and survive. Make sure if you go on a trip you pack correctly because it might be a suvival situation. You need the rule of 3 to survive.

ReplyDeleteFood Chain
Do you know what animals eat other animals? If you don't I will tell tell you. First of of all this is called the Food Chain. We are going to talk about animals on the food pyramid. The animals on the top of the food pyramid like cougars and great horned owls. They can kill and eat any animal but they have a harder time finding food, shelter, and water. And the bottom of the pyramid has an easier time getting food, shelter, and water. There are also names for the bottom, middle, and top of the food pyramid. The bottom animals on the pyramid are called herbivores. The middle is called omnivores, and the top is carnivores.Did you learn more? I bet you did.

ReplyDeleteNocturnal Animals
What do you know about nocturnal animals? I know some facts. Here are some types of nocturnal animals: owls and bats. They slumber in the day and hunt in the night. These animals have special techniques like bats have echolocation. They use that to hunt and fly around. Also owls have tremendous eyes and silent wings. That is what I learned about nocturnal animals at camp.

ReplyDeleteThe Food Chain
Do you ever want to learn about the food chain? Well I will tell you all about it!The animals at the top of the food chain has the power to kill any animal lower on the food chain then them. The animals at the top of the food chain are also called carnivores because they mainly eat meat. The middle of the food chain is the most interesting to me because they can eat plants and meat and these animals are called omnivores. Now I bet you are wondering what the bottom of the food chain is called and what they eat, well they are called herbivores and the eat plants. Some exampels of herbivres are deer, rabbits, and butterfly.Did you know that the top of the food chain has a harder time of surviving because they need more food, water, and shelter then the omnivores and the herbivores it also is hard because they have to catch living animals for their food!I hope you have enjoyed learning about the food chain!
Drip, drop, plat, drop, drop, that is the sound of rain and the first stage in the water cycle, precipitation. The odder of the water cycle goes precipitation, then infiltration, then evaporation, and finally condensation. After condensation
ReplyDeletehappens the water cycle starts all over again. Precipitation is when any form of water falls from the sky such as rain, snow, hail, or sleet. Infiltration is when the water goes into the ground. Evaporation is when water turns into gas and generally goes into the sky. The concluding stage is condensation. Condensation is when water in comes together and forms a cloud. I hope you just learned something new about the water cycle.

ReplyDeleteThe Water Cycle
Have you ever wondered about the water cycle???
Well here's some information on it. First, water evaporates and transforms into gas. Then, condensation happens. That means water comes together to form a cloud. After that, percifitation happens. That's when any kind of water falls from the sky because there's to much water in a cloud therefore, the cloud cannot store it. At the end of the water cycle water gets soaked up into the ground and that's called infultration. Then water runs back into the river and the cycle starts all over again.
It sounds like the food chain, nocturnal animals, and the water cycle were three of the most popular topics you learned about.
ReplyDeleteMatthew, what is PMA? Oscar, why can't we live without the rule of 3? Violet, your paragraph is just fine. It's the quality of the writing I'm looking for and the facts that you use, not what it looks like because the computer was being difficult. I love the sound effects you used for the rain for your topic sentence. You all have some great facts.
Don't worry. Be happy!
Said Alexa- I am going to chat about the Water Cycle today. The order of the cycle is precipitation, infiltration, evaporation, then condensation. Precipitation is when water is falling from the sky. Infiltration is when the water is soaking into the ground, and makes under ground rivers. These rivers flow into ponds. Then the water evaporates. That is when the water turns into gas, and goes into the sky. After evaporation the water droplets in the sky form clouds. This is called condensation. Then the cycle starts over again. That is the Water Cycle.
ReplyDeleteThe river
ReplyDeleteLukas said-The St.Croix river is very interesting. It has many plants and creatures that inhabit it. These creatures and plants are snails, duckweed, fish water insects, turtles and even more! Some people use the St.Croix as business like fishermen, boating companies, and recreation like swimming. Sadly some parts of the St.Croix polluted, but don`t let that stop you from going there! This river was used by voyagers in the 1700s. They came here to trade the Native americans.
Tis why I think the St.Croix river is awesome!

ReplyDeleteNocturnal Animals
Do you know about nocturnal animals? All of them sleep in the day. At night, nocturnal animals hunt for food. That is the only time they get to hunt. Some nocturnal animals are owls, raccoons, and bats. Bats use echolocation to chat to other bats. Nocturnal animals can be big or small. I hope you learned a lot about nocturnal animals!

ReplyDeleteDo you want to learn a lot about the water cycle? The order of the water cycle is precipitation next is infiltration then it is evaporation and last is condensation. Precipitation is when water falls from the sky. Infiltration is when water seeps into the ground. Evaporation is when a liquid converts into a gas. Condensation is when water forms a cloud. I hope you enjoyed learning about the water cycle.

ReplyDeleteRule of Three
Would you like to know what to do in a survival situation? Here are some things to follow using the rule of three. First off, you can go three weeks without food. You need to drink water, becase you can survive three days without it. Make sure you have somewhere to stay, you can go for just three hours, so you need to find somewhere. Without air you can only go three minutes until you suffocate. Last but not least, you can go for only three seconds without positive mental attitude, you need to have an exellent attitude to survive. It's smart to follow the rules of three in a survival situation.

ReplyDeleteHave you ever guessed what the basic needs are and how long you can go without them? Well I’m about to tell you. First is P.M.A. (Positive Mental Attitude), in a survival situation you can’t go for 3 seconds without it. Next is air, everyone needs oxygen, and after 3 minuets you pass out and afrter 6 minuets you get permanent brain damage. Third is shelter, in a survival situation you need it after 3 hours. Forth is water, and you need it a lot and 3 days is the average limit. After that, food and after 3weeks on average you will starve. Did you notice anything in common with all the rules? Yeah, they’re all the rules of 3, please don’t try at home.

ReplyDeleteWe learned about the food chain and here are some facts about it. The animals on the top of the food chain have a lot they can catch not like the bottom. The middle of the food chain can get eaten and they can capture animals too.The bottom of the food chain can get eaten by a lot of animals. All of these places in the food chain have names. Can you guess what they are? The top of the food chain is called carnivores. The middle is called omnivores. Also the bottom is called herbivores. I hope you learned about The food chain.

ReplyDeleteRule Of 3
Want to know what the Rule of 3 is and how it can help you? The Rule of 3 is a rule that teaches you how to survive. It can help you by telling you how long you can go without a positive mental attitude, oxygen, shelter, water, and food. Also, it can really help you when you are in a survival situation. This is what it tells you, you can go three seconds without a positive mental attitude, you can go three minutes without oxygen, you can go three hours without shelter, you can go three days without water and you can go three weeks without food. That is what the Rule of 3 is and how it can help you.

ReplyDeleteCauses and Effects on Animals
What happens when people move to the forest? What happens is that animals have less space to make their habbitats or homes. Also there is less food and animals might move and get hit by a car. When people are at camp they burn the land so there is more space for them but it burns down animals homes too and thats not good at all! This is what happens when people move into the forest.
What happens when people take down trees to make cabins and parking lots? What happens is that many animals live in trees and they would lose their home. Also animals would get run over by what cutting it down. Animals like rabbits make holes in the ground and they would cut grass down to make parking lots and block the holes that the rabbits made. This is what happens when people make cabins and parking lots.
If people move into the forest animals can lose food and die from starvation! How it works is when people move into the forest they take down homes and plant eaters could move out of the forest bcause theres too many people in the forest. Then the meat eaters would die from starvation. Camp wouldn't be so cool if there where no animals either! This is what happens when people move in and animals die from starvation.
What happens when people litter in the forest? Animals die if they eat litter like plastic. Litter can prevent plants from growing. Fewer plants means less food and nesting materials. This is what happens when people litter.

ReplyDeleteHave you ever wounded what the water cycle is? Well I learned a few facts about it at Camp St. Croix. How does the water cycle start? Step number 1. The water comes down this is called rain. Step number 2. The water makes a puddle or goes into the ground. Step number 3. The water goes into lakes or rivers. Step number 4. Some of the water evaporates into the air. Step number 5 it will rain again.

ReplyDeletewater cycle.
I'm going to tell you about the water cycle. So first what happens is it rains and it comes down from the clouds. Then the water that came down from the clouds soaks into the clouds (rain) soaks into the ground getting ready for the next thing to happen in the water cycle. And then the next thing that happens is the water that soaked into the ground becomes a tiny river (it could also become a puddle), and it could also become a flood , a way to prevent this is to have a rain garden. Then the the next thing that happens is some of the water evaporates back up to the clouds to make more rain to have the water cycle keep going over and over again.

ReplyDeleteCauses and effects on animals. When humans move into the beautiful forrest and they build buildings and they destroys animals'warm homes, shelter, and yummy food. Humans should not leave trash on the forrest floor. Also, humans should not cut down animals' homes or use oxygen that animals' need.
